EXERCISE #11: The "Control & Attack" Drill

Mindset Exercise: The "Control & Attack" Drill

This workout trains you to mentally pace a long session with control, focus, and competitive fire.

Instructions:

1️⃣ During your next long session, divide it into 3 segments:

  • First third: Focus on calmness & patience (hold back intentionally).
  • Middle third: Use focus shifts & aggressive self-talk (break it into smaller chunks).
  • Final third: Turn on the competitor mode (push a little harder, race yourself).

2️⃣ Track your execution:

  • Did you go too hard too early?
  • Did your middle third feel mentally tough?
  • Did you finish stronger than expected?

3️⃣ Refine your strategy:

  • Adjust mantras, focus cues, and effort shifts for the next session.
  • The goal is to own the entire long session—not just survive it.

Final Thought

Driven Competitors succeed not because they go hard all the time—but because they know when to hold back, when to focus, and when to unleash.

This week’s challenge: Master the long session mentally, and race day will feel easier than ever.
