EXERCISE #21: The 5-Minute Race Rehearsal

Mindset Exercise: The 5-Minute Race Rehearsal

This week, you will mentally race before you physically race.

Step 1: Find 5 Minutes of Quiet Time

  • Sit down somewhere with no distractions.
  • Close your eyes, take a deep breath.

Step 2: Mentally Race at Full Speed

  • Rehearse the entire race in your mind.
  • Picture the start, the middle, the struggle, and the finish.
  • Feel the sensations—your breathing, your legs, your effort.

Step 3: Identify a Challenge

  • Imagine one thing going wrong (cramping, pacing mistake, rough conditions).
  • Visualize yourself handling it perfectly.

Step 4: Lock in Your Mindset

  • End your visualization with a clear, confident statement to yourself:
“I am prepared. I am ready. I execute with precision.”

Final Thought

Driven Competitors don’t just hope for a great race—they prepare their mind for it. When you mentally pre-live your performance, your brain treats it as a real experience. This means when race day arrives, your mind will say, ‘I’ve been here before—I know exactly what to do.’
