EXERCISE #23: Writing Your Race Story

Practice Session: "Writing Your Race Story"

📝 Exercise: Post-Race Reflection Through Storytelling

  1. Set the Scene

    • Write about the morning of your race. What were you feeling as you woke up? Nervous? Excited? Reflect on any pre-race emotions.
  2. The Opening Miles

    • What was the tone of the early part of your race? Did you feel strong? Did doubts creep in? Capture your emotions, not just your performance.
  3. The Conflict/Struggle

    • Every endurance event has a moment when things get hard. Write about yours. Was it physical fatigue? Mental struggle? Unexpected circumstances? How did you respond?
  4. The Turning Point

    • Was there a moment where you dug deep? Found another gear? Reframed your mindset? Describe the shift.
  5. The Finish Line & Aftermath

    • When you crossed the finish line, what emotions surfaced? Relief? Disappointment? Gratitude? Write about how you processed the experience in the hours and days afterward.
  6. The Bigger Picture

    • Now, zoom out. How does this race fit into your journey as an athlete? What lessons will you carry forward?

Final Reflection: "The Lesson Within the Race"

Once you've written your story, reread it and highlight one core lesson. If you could summarize your race experience in a single sentence of wisdom, what would it be?

This will be your guiding mantra moving forward—whether you are celebrating a breakthrough or processing a setback, the true success of a race lies in what you learned from it.
