  • You warm up differently each time

  • Your focus depends on how you feel that day

Sometimes it clicks.

Sometimes it doesn’t.


The Trap of the Independent Grinder

You believe:

“I’ll lock in once it starts.”

And sometimes you do.

But other times—

You start scattered.

And now you’re trying to fix execution…

After it’s already begun.


Why This Matters

The first few minutes of any session or race:

  • Set your rhythm
  • Establish control
  • Determine how you settle in

If you start off misaligned—

You spend the rest of the session correcting it.


What You’re Missing

Consistency doesn’t start when the work begins.

It starts before it.


A Routine Creates Stability

Not rigidity.

Stability.

A repeatable process that:

  • Gets your body ready
  • Gets your mind focused
  • Reduces variability

Without a Routine, You’re Guessing

Step 1: Identify What Works

Think about sessions where you executed well.

What did you do beforehand?

  • Warm-up structure
  • Mental cues
  • Setup

Write down 3–5 consistent elements.


Step 2: Standardize It

Before your next key session:

Follow the same sequence.

Not perfectly.

But consistently.


Step 3: Refine Over Time

After each key session, ask:

  • Did my routine help me start controlled?
  • What should I keep?
  • What should I adjust?
